Carlos Marchena is a regular in the Spain set-up, although he is often used as a back-up, with his versatility a valuable asset for his country. The 29-year-old currently plays his club football for Valencia and has struggled to reach top form this season as Los Che have suffered a string of poor results. Can play anywhere across the back four, although he appears to favour a central role, Marchena remains a favourite with national team coach Luis Aragones and was a virtual ever-present during qualifying for this summer's tournament.
